Car ploughed into pedestrians leaving UB40 concert at Lingfield Park Racecourse – recap

A car was reportedly driven into a crowd of people leaving a UB40 concert at a Surrey racecourse on Saturday night (July 31), police have said.

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses after members of the public were hit by a car following the event, thought to be a sell-out concert by the Birmingham-based reggae band at Lingfield Park Racecourse.

Officers were called shortly before 11pm following reports that a car had driven into pedestrians who were leaving the racecourse.

Three people were taken to hospital with injuries not deemed to be life-threatening and one remained there on Sunday (August 1). No arrests have been made yet and enquiries are ongoing.

Surrey Police Chief Inspector Dan Gutierrez said: “We would like to reassure the public that this incident is not believed to be terror related.

“We know that there were thousands of people in attendance at this event and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything or have any dashcam footage of the lead-up to the collision to get in contact with us.”

People who may have witnessed anything or have any further information are being urged to contact the police, quoting incident reference PR/P21165133.
