Although bank holiday is over many families are heading off on their half term holiday to enjoy the sunshine.
We are being blessed with glorious sunshine across the south west and nice warm temperatures, but the rush to get to the beach means extra vigilance is needed on our biggest roads.
We’re bringing you the latest updates across the south west as accidents start to disrupt half term holiday traffic.
This morning there were long queues on the M4 eastbound due to a “medical incident”, leading to a lane closure.
Traffic reports said at 6.07am: “Queueing traffic due to earlier medical incident on M4 Eastbound from J22 M49 to J21 M48. All lanes have been re-opened. Lane one (of two) was closed.”
Again on the M4 at 7.28am it was reported that there was another lane closed due to an accident between a car and a lorry on on M4 Westbound at J17 A350 (Chippenham).
Highways England have since revealed that this accident by J16 at Royal Wooton Basset to J17 at Chippenham has seen a vehicle in the central reservation.
On Twitter they wrote: “#M4 J16 #RoyalWootonBassett to J17 #Chippenham – We have a vehicle in the central reservation.
“There is a lane 3 closure in place please pass with care. Traffic officers and recovery are on route.”
And on the A38 Bristol Road there is a report of an accident near the A370 Bridgwater Road (East Brent roundabout) – however traffic is currently believed to be coping well.
