Drivers are facing delays of around 45 minutes after a car overturned on the M6 southbound near Wigan.
Two lanes of traffic are currently blocked on the motorway between junction 27 at Standish and junction 26 for the M58 Orrell Interchange.
Traffic is currently able to pass the overturned car in the first lane, but another vehicle is blocking that lane further down the carriageway.
Congestion is building through the roadworks area on the M6 following the crash, which took place at around 9am this morning (Monday).
Greater Manchester Police, highways officers and paramedics are all being sent out to the scene.
A spokesperson Highways England wrote on Twitter: “The M6 southbound at J26 (Orrell Interchange M58) there is an overturned vehicle blocking lanes two and three and another vehicle blocking lane one further down .
“Traffic Officers, GMP, motorway police and North West Ambulance Service are on their way to the area.”
In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for North West Motorway Police added: “M6 RTC between the slip road at J26 southbound -report of a car on it’s side.
“Lane two and three blocked. Traffic is passing in lane one. Police and Highways attending.”
