Man dies on A46 after fatal car and lorry crash near M5 – latest updates

A man has died following a fatal crash involving a car and a lorry has closed the A46 between its junction with the M5 at Tewkesbury and Teddington.

The crash happened on the Teddington Hands roundabout at around 8.20pm last night (Tuesday, June 15) and involved a HGV and a car..

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the HGV, a man in his 30s and from the area, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after sustaining injuries which were not deemed to be serious.

The road remains closed this morning. Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

According to traffic Inrix the closure will be in place until 2pm.

An update on Inrix at 8:30am said: “A46 in both directions closed due to recovery work and earlier accident, a car and lorry involved from B4079 Pamington turn-off to A435.

“Affecting traffic between Tewkesbury and Evesham. Road has been closed since Tuesday evening, recovery work is ongoing.”

On its website, Highways England said: “The A46 in Gloucestershire is closed in both directions between B4079 (Aston Cross) and A435 (Teddington), due to a serious collision involving a car and lorry which occurred shortly after 8:30pm last night.

“Gloucestershire Police are on scene carrying out complex investigation work. They have confirmed that the closure is likely to remain in place until early afternoon.

“Highways England Traffic Officers and service providers are also in attendance.”

“Traffic is being diverted via local roads.

“HGV’s travelling on the M5 heading to Tewkesbury are advised to travel to J10, exit on to the A4019 towards Cheltenham. Take the A435 travelling northbound through Pittville and Bishops Cleeve to join the A46 at Teddington.

“Please allow extra journey time if travelling in the area today. “
